Best Cupcakes!

Thursday April 9, 2009

Today grubstreet ran a story about Nancy Olsen (of Gramercy Tavern fame) rating the city's best cupcakes.  We came in at a modest 6th out of 15, which 'aint too bad, we think. However, we have to disagree with Nan's comment that our buttercream was too dense. Obviously, the cupcake was refrigerated (NO!) and it shows in the photograph. Our malted cupcake would have more of a sheen if it were at room temp (which is how all good cups should be eaten). Believe me, I know my babies, and I know what they look like when they've been chillin'... Anyway, check it out here and let us know if you agree with the results!

Must disagree with Nancy. The cake is not crumbly at all. Light and moist and the frosting is feather light as well. Haven't tried her winners but Baked cupcakes are far better than she lets on

Any good baker knows that you NEVER serve refrigerated cake. Nancy must have picked up the wrong cupcake. Baked cakes are perfectly moist and the frostings are the best I've ever had. They're so good that I fantasize about the next one I'm going to make!

OO those cup cakes look good. I made red velvet cup cakes using this recipe http://www.howcast.com/videos/139827-How-To-Make-Red-Velvet-Cake the other day and was thinking about putting different icing on it.
