Baked has taken us to many far-off places, but we never thought we would have an opportunity to go to South Dakota. But as luck would have it, we ended up there this Summer. We spent a few days in Sioux City, doing work with The Boys & Girls Home and promoting their big charity event this October, Marvel-ous.

This is a water tower:

We also did a few in home demos! Here's us at one:

Please notice our lovely assistant, my snarky expression and Matt's wine glass. His wine glass was pretty full during our whole stay there.

The highlight was getting to see Kristine & Mitch, two Baked employees from long ago. They moved back home to Sioux Falls (about an hour + drive from Sioux City) and opened their own place called Queen City Bakery. It's really a wonderful Bakeshop and they were kind enough to host a book signing & tasting there. Please notice the Guiness that Kristine is holding:

All in all, we had a great time. We learned that South Dakota boarders Iowa, Nebraska AND North Dakota (who knew?), We learned what a loose meat sandwich was, we learned that Jolly Time popcorn and the Twin Bing candy Bar hail from Sioux City, and that the corn on the cob was some of the best we've had. We're going back in October for the big charity ball, and we can't wait!

Today is January 12, 2010 and my first exposure was an advertisment at 11:55 p.m. It is now 11:58 p.m. and I am totally in love with Baked without the luxury of a tasteful memory or even an experience to share with others. However I am a traveler and put this as number 1 on my list of go to's in New York. It was the homey pictures with the "we are down to earth" nature that caught my attention...see you soon!

I seen the sweet & salty brownies late last night on Food Networks The Best Thing I've Ever Eaten. I am placing my order now. I can't wait to eat them. And you definitely should consider doing RAGBRI in IA Summer 2010.

Saw the sweet and salty on Food Network, can't wait to try one. By the way, the abbreviation for Nebraska is NE, NB is New Brunswick, Canada, which is also a nice place!
